Promoting good money management across Wales

Brian Gibbons AM, the minister for social justice and local government, is launching a new money education initiative today (June 10) at the Welsh Assembly. Credit Action Cymru, part of national money education charity Credit Action, will provide information and advice specifically aimed at helping people in Wales to manage their money more effectively.

With the country in the grip of recession the need for people to understand how to make their money go further as well as where to get help when things go wrong has never been greater. By providing training, workshops and resources - such as the popular Credit Action Moneymanual series - across Wales and in the Welsh language, Credit Action Cymru will help to ensure that people are as well equipped as possible to cope in a rocky economic climate and to thrive as and when things recover.

Explaining why Credit Action wanted to branch out in this way Chris Tapp, Director of the charity said:

"At Credit Action we aim to reach people right across the UK with practical help, information and education on coping with personal finance. So many people find money a confusing subject and yet it's so fundamental, especially at a time when many people are seeking to cope financially in difficult circumstances such as those going through redundancy, in negative equity or struggling with debt.

"Previously we didn't cover the issue in Wales as thoroughly as we would have liked and so having a dedicated team through Credit Action Cymru is a great stride forward in meeting the need in the principality."
