DebtCred
DebtCred recently became a ring-fenced project within Credit Action having previously been our partner organisation.
DebtCred provides a range of materials and resources to help support secondary school teachers and educators in the delivery of money education in schools. All of the project’s information can be accessed at www.debtcred.org.uk.
DebtCred was launched in 2002 as the High Sheriffs’ Financial Literacy Project for England and Wales. In supporting the project, it is believed that High Sheriffs can help to push the importance of financial literacy up the political agenda. Therefore, DebtCred would like to maintain continuity with those High Sheriffs already active in supporting the project and to develop new links across England and Wales to promote personal financial education in schools.
In April 2009, DebtCred launched a new online resource, Quality Marked by the Personal Finance Education Group (pfeg), called Your Money and Your Life which can be downloaded for free by teachers through the DebtCred website. Topics cover the extensive range of financial services and products and teach students how to make sense of them, how to budget and set goals for life, and how to develop responsible attitudes to money.
DebtCred runs a Volunteer Educator Programme with the objective of recruiting employees from various businesses to use their professional financial expertise in secondary schools. Through the Programme, DebtCred provides a range of materials and resources to help support secondary school teachers and volunteer educators in the delivery of personal financial education as well as tailored presentations to students.
In the academic year 2008/2009 DebtCred, mostly through its work in Cheshire & District, delivered presentations to over eight thousand school students.
Alongside delivery to young people, DebtCred is also actively involved in other parts of England and Wales delivering Continuous Development Programmes for teachers, whole day events at schools and tailored presentations.
