Credit Action - Better thinking about money
About us Training Resources Publications Publications Ongoing Projects Press Section Advocacy

A recent uSwitch survey estimated that 11% of adults in the UK spend more than they earn each month. Money worries touch all our communities, both inside and outside the church. Problems with money cause fear, shame and anxiety, they can lead to relationship breakdown and ill health and they disproportionately affect the poor in society. The full scale of the problem is often not apparent as those struggling with money may be doing so secretly, ashamed of their situation.

As followers of Jesus we are called to ‘preach good news to the poor...bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.’ (Isaiah 61 1). Those held captive by debt need our help and the church is well placed to meet those needs.

There are many ways that the church and individuals can release people from the burdens of their debts. Not all of these require technical expertise and extensive resources. The only essential is a passion to help others.
